Tell Me About Your Journey

How would you show up differently in your life if you weren’t burned out? The journey beyond burnout starts with the realization that you don’t want to be where you are; not now, not in one year, not in ten years. Use that understanding to propel you forward to imagining a different life, a different way of being, a different way of FEELING in your life. Tell me about your journey so far, where you are now and how you want to be in the future.

Free Discussion Sessions

May 1st-May 31st, 2024

I believe working in healthcare may be the reason you are in burnout but what keeps you in the cycle developed before you were a nurse. What do you do when you are chronically stressed and overwhelmed?

Do you:

  • sleep constantly

  • binge watch shows

  • scroll social media endlessly

  • hide away from everyone

  • say yes to everyone and everything

  • take on new projects even though none of your others are finished

  • figure out everyone’s problems whether they ask or not

If you recognized yourself in any of the above, you are living in a trauma response that most likely started in your childhood. This is keeping you in burnout and learning how to regulate your nervous system and develop new responses to stress will break the cycle of burnout.

Checking your pulse on burnout

One free 50 minute session to discuss:

  • what you are currently experiencing

  • what have you tried to help

  • barriers to creating sustainable change

  • create 1-2 bite size sustainable goals to soothe your nervous system

About Doris Taylor, RN

In 2021, I left behind a 20-year nursing career after experiencing 5 years of burnout that was so severe my PCP wanted to put me on FMLA. For the five years before I finally quit, I felt like I was trying to plan a prison break. I was constantly trying to figure out how I was going to escape nursing. When I started my career, I never envisioned myself as doing anything else but nursing. When I left, I didn’t want to tell anyone what I had been doing for the last 20 years.

As nurses, we impact a lot of people’s lives positively, but we don’t always think about how their trauma impacts our lives. We are so used to pushing through and not dealing with the emotional effects of what we experience with patients and their families. Quitting gave me the time and space to start working through the trauma I had carried around for that 20-year career.

Now that I have worked through the factors that led to my burnout, and the tools and practices that helped me recover, I’m on a mission to help healthcare workers escape burnout without feeling like they have to quit.

There is a way out of burnout. Whether you choose to stay in healthcare or find another career, learning tools to keep you out of burnout is important no matter which path you choose.

It’s hard to see a way out of burnout when you’re in it because you are stuck in a cycle of exhaustion and overwhelm.

This call is like a friend reaching down and giving you a hand to pull you out of that hole.

I want to reach nurses to make sure you know:

  • You are not alone

  • You are not stuck in a permanent cycle of burnout

  • There is a growing community for you to offer support when it’s needed (and it’s so needed)

There is a lot of pain in being a nurse in this current state:

  • You are being asked to do more with less resources

  • This leads to chronic exhaustion, physically, mentally, emotionally & spiritually

  • You may feel trapped and like you don’t have a choice to not do what you’re doing even though you are at your limit

  • You experience compassion fatigue. You might have professionalism towards your patients but you don’t have any depth of compassion for who they are and what they’re going through, this hurts them and it also hurts you

  • You reach your limit and you don’t know where to go

  • This effects your home life and relationships, how you interact with everyone around you and lead to having less compassion for your loved ones

  • You may experience self-harming behaviors: alcoholism, isolation, negative self-talk, dissociation

A Different Cycle

How can you create a different cycle?

How coaching can help:

  • In coaching, we identify together where you want to be and how you want to feel and then help you identify the steps and tools that can support you in breaking the burnout cycle

  • We might work on things like: sleep, nutrition, nervous system regulation, emotional health, creating space to improve your resiliency

  • Working with a coach really helps to have accountability and work through barriers that come up if you’re trying to implement something new. It’s easy to get overwhelmed and not do the thing that will help you move towards how you want to feel in life

  • Burnout creates vicious cycles that don’t allow you to adequately rest. This coaching helps interrupt and shift those cycles through simple and consistent practices that value your overall health

  • We will build resiliency into your nervous system so you have the capacity to be less reactive and more proactive, to feel less stuck in unhealthy patterns
